New York City-based Dick Huey leads Sydney-based Jaxsta’s global partnership initiatives for acquiring official metadata from rights owners, and for customer acquisition and music metadata licensing to digital music services and voice activated platforms

Dick moved to New York City in 1997 to work for independent label powerhouse Beggars Group, where he established his music career strategizing and creating/staffing their new media department from 1997-2002. He conceptualized the group’s new media approach, and licensed its groundbreaking catalog of independent music.

He began his career as a performer and music manager, and signed and managed artists to the Beggars Group and Glitterhouse Records.

Huey was a consultant to Spotify and led its US independent label licensing efforts prior to and during its US launch in 2011. He also provided digital licensing and consulting services or was an early advisor to Red Bull Music Radio, SoundExchange, 8tracks, The Orchard, Digital Rights Agency, Red Mountain Ski Resort, Tunecore, and many others.

He brings twenty-five years’ experience working with consumer brands, media, tech, sports and entertainment companies – and more than 350+ premier artists including Arcade Fire, Ani DiFranco, Amy Ray, Aimee Mann and Spoon, and entertainment clients including Merge Records, Touch and Go, Beggars Group, Saddle Creek, and many others.

He served for twelve years on the SoundExchange board representing Matador Records. He is a past Executive Director of the non-profit Future of Music Coalition in Washington D.C., and is the current Board Chairman.

He founded the digital strategy, marketing and music rights licensing service company Toolshed in 2002 through a long-term ongoing consultancy with Beggars Group.
